Klaviyo vs Omnisend: the honest answer.

Both are good. The real difference is cost, depth, and who you are. Klaviyo goes deeper. Omnisend costs less and moves faster. Here's how to pick without turning it into a research project.

KLAVIYO VS OMNISEND DEPTH VS VALUE PART OF THE PLAYBOOK

If you're deciding between Klaviyo and Omnisend, you're asking the second question first. The one that actually decides how much money your list makes has nothing to do with which logo you pick.

I'll give you the straight platform answer below, because it's a real decision and I don't want to waste your time. But if you take one thing from this, take this: your email platform is a set of pipes. The revenue comes from what you run through them. I've watched brands migrate from one great tool to another and end up in exactly the same place three months later, because they carried the same habits across. So let's start with the part that actually moves money, then pick the tool.

The number your platform choice won't fix

Most stores are leaving the majority of their email revenue on the table, and it's almost never because of the software. It's because the list is getting blasted instead of segmented, the automated flows that should run 24/7 either don't exist or were set up once and never touched, and the emails ask for the sale before they've done anything to earn it. A world-class platform running that setup still loses to a cheaper one running real strategy. Every time.

So before you spend a weekend comparing feature grids, ask the questions that actually decide your revenue. Are the core flows live and written to move a belief, not just remind someone. Is the list cut by who's actually buying versus who signed up and vanished. Is the offer built around something the customer wants, with a real reason behind any discount. Get those right and both of these platforms will make you money. Get them wrong and neither will save you. That's the work I get paid for, and it's the same work regardless of which tool it runs on.

Okay, the platforms. Klaviyo.

Klaviyo is the ecommerce standard and it earned the spot. The deepest segmentation on the market, predictive data, tight native integration with Shopify, and email plus SMS in one system. If you're doing real volume and you'll actually use the depth, it lets you get surgical in ways cheaper tools can't. The catch: it gets expensive fast as your list grows, and plenty of brands pay for a level of sophistication they never touch.

Omnisend.

Omnisend is the value pick, built for small and mid-size stores that want to move fast. Email, SMS, and web push come bundled on the paid plans instead of SMS being an upsell. Cheaper at every tier, quicker to launch, and it still ships strong automation on the lower plans. For an early or growing store it covers the essentials well and leaves more cash in the business. The catch: once you need advanced segmentation at scale, you'll feel a ceiling Klaviyo doesn't have.

What you're really paying for

Entry pricing is close, Omnisend around $16/mo and Klaviyo around $20/mo for a small list, but the gap opens up fast. By 50,000 contacts Omnisend runs roughly $199/mo while Klaviyo can run north of $700/mo. (Both change their pricing often, so check the live pages before you commit.) Here's the part worth sitting with: the subscription is the cheap number. The expensive number is the revenue a poorly-run list leaves behind every single month, and that figure dwarfs the price difference between any two platforms. Don't pick the tool that saves you $500 a month if it distracts you from the strategy that would make you $5,000. Pick the one you'll actually run well.

The honest answer

Under roughly $500K in annual revenue, Omnisend usually wins on value and speed. Past that, when the depth starts paying for itself, Klaviyo earns its premium. But that's a footnote. The platform is a distant second to whether your flows, segmentation, and offers are actually built well, and that's true on either one.

Choose Klaviyo if

You're scaling past roughly $500K a year, you'll genuinely use the deepest segmentation and predictive data on the market, email is the center of your strategy, and you can trade a higher monthly cost for more revenue per send.

Choose Omnisend if

You're early or mid-size, you want lower costs and a faster setup, you want email and SMS bundled without a steep learning curve, and you'd rather keep the difference in the business than pay for depth you're not using yet.

My honest position

I'll work in whatever you already use, and I'll give you a straight recommendation if you're starting fresh. But I'm not going to pretend a migration is the fix when it usually isn't. If switching genuinely saves you real money or unlocks something you need, I'll say so. If it's a distraction from the strategy that would actually grow your revenue, I'll say that too. The tool is a small decision inside a much bigger system, and the bigger system is where I spend my time.

Common questions

Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?
Yes, at essentially every tier, and the gap widens as your list grows. Entry pricing is close; at scale the difference is large.

Does Omnisend include SMS?
Yes. Email, SMS, and web push come bundled on the paid plans. Klaviyo does SMS too, but as a paid add-on, and it has no web push.

Should a small Shopify store use Klaviyo or Omnisend?
For most early-stage and mid-size stores, Omnisend is the easier, cheaper place to start. Klaviyo makes more sense once you're scaling and want the deepest data.

Is it worth switching from Klaviyo to Omnisend?
Only if cost or complexity is genuinely a problem. A migration doesn't fix a weak strategy. Decide based on your actual usage, not the logo.
